Higher Learning Commission Continues Accreditation for SIUE
The North Central Association’s (NCA) Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has notified Southern Illinois University Edwardsville of its continued accreditation.
The final decision by the Institutional Actions Council was made March 9 and was officially delivered to SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe on March 16.
“We look forward to enhancing our ever-growing reputation for delivering the highest quality education,” said Furst-Bowe. “The HLC has highlighted SIUE’s culture of continuous improvement, an attribute that we will continue to emphasize.”
In all previous reviews, SIUE met all of the accreditation criteria and federal compliance standards required. SIUE has been a long-time participant in the Academic Quality Improvement program (AQIP). The HLC has been conducing Quality Checkup peer review visits to institutions during their fifth or sixth year of every seven-year cycle of AQIP participation.
Along with this reaffirmation, SIUE had the opportunity to declare a new pathway for accreditation through HLC. SIUE has elected to move to the Open Pathway where SIUE’s reporting and quality improvement initiatives will change. The University will move into a 10-year accreditation cycle with an Assurance Review or comprehensive evaluation in year four.
“The HLC has confirmed SIUE’s on-going commitment to its students,” said Dr. Parviz Ansari, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. “We will continue to be successful, because of our faculty and staff’s dedicated passion for higher education.”
Associate Provost Denise Cobb is responsible for overseeing the University’s accreditation and quality assurance processes.
